Savannah, Georgia has a plethora of picturesque spots – oak covered lanes, quaint townhouse rows, wrought iron fences around historic mansions, lush parks… and this is just within the Forsyth Park area! When planning a destination group session, I look to get as much diversity as possible without spreading out too far – especially in Savannah where finding parking can be tricky. Forsyth Park, Bull Street Baptist Church and Hotel Bardo were the three places I chose for this year’s photoshoot in Savannah!
- Forsyth Park is usually busy so going at an “off” time during the week is ideal – weekends have weddings near the fountains and the lighting can be hard to work with in the mornings. This shoot was on a Monday afternoon and it worked out perfectly. The fountain is the obvious go-to spot but the benches, brick walkways and big oaks are also a great spot to stop — different times of the year will showcase blooming flowers around the park.
- Bull Street Baptist is my go-to spot because of the different posing we can do in this one space. It has huge columns, a ton of steps, big white stone walls and a cute teal door. And the lighting in this area in the afternoon is really nice.
- Hotel Bardo has a unique look – it is a deep auburn color with a little wall around the courtyard area. It is historic in its own way, and close enough to Forsyth Park to make it worth the walk. I also like to stop at a few of the SCAD buildings as we walk to and from this hotel for some pictures with steps and other spaces along the way.
Senior portraits in Savannah are so perfectly southern and such a beautiful excuse to enjoy a weekend away in a gorgeous destination!
