There are some weddings that are beautiful because of the flowers, the venue, or the dress.
Then there are weddings that are beautiful because of the people.
Maggie and Craig’s wedding at Hallabrook Hill somehow managed to be both.
From the moment I walked into the bridal suite that morning, everything just felt… calm. Not because there wasn’t excitement (there absolutely was), but because Maggie never seemed overwhelmed by it. She was genuinely excited to marry Craig, and you could tell she had made up her mind long before the wedding day that she was going to enjoy every bit of it.
A Calm Start to the Best Day…
Her bridesmaids matched that same energy. There was plenty of laughter, plenty of conversation, and nobody seemed to be rushing from one thing to the next. It was one of those mornings where everyone was simply happy to be there.
I loved every design choice Maggie made because nothing felt like it was trying too hard.
The guys wore classic black tuxedos while the bridesmaids each wore a different muted pink dress, one even wore a pantsuit. This color and style fit perfectly with the overall look and kept everything feeling modern without taking away from the elegance of the day.
The muted sage green accents tied everything together and gave the wedding such a soft spring feel.
And then there was Maggie’s dress.
She found it at Anthropologie, and it was one of those gowns that immediately catches your eye because it’s a little different. The neck scarf detail felt current without feeling trendy for trend’s sake. Paired with her long hair worn down and just a few simple pieces of jewelry, the whole look felt effortless.
Which, honestly, describes Maggie perfectly.
Nearly a Decade in the Making…
Maggie and Craig met at camp almost ten years ago.
They’ve spent much of their relationship dating long distance, which makes their wedding day feel even sweeter. After years of choosing each other through different seasons of life, this was finally the day they got to begin the next chapter together.
One of my favorite things about them is how present they are.
There are couples who spend their wedding day thinking about the schedule, and then there are couples who spend it looking for each other. Maggie and Craig were the second kind.
Neither one of them seemed distracted by timelines or wondering what came next. They paid attention to each other. They laughed easily. They took in the people around them. They were exactly where they wanted to be.
As photographers, we can’t manufacture moments like that. We just get the privilege of preserving them.
A Hallabrook Hill Ceremony…
If you’ve never visited Hallabrook Hill, it’s tucked away in a pecan grove in southern Lowndes County just outside of Valdosta, Georgia.
The white stucco architecture has subtle Italian influences without feeling overly formal, and every direction you turn offers another beautiful place for portraits.
The ceremony took place beneath the venue’s long covered portico while a violinist played, and it couldn’t have suited this wedding more.
One moment I’ll remember for a long time happened just before Maggie’s dad took his seat.
After walking her down the aisle, he gently lifted her blusher before giving her away and then he stood between the couple with their arms linked, showing the love and support he has for both of them separately and as a couple.
It was simple.
Quiet.
And somehow said everything.
You could immediately see how much he loves his daughter. But just as evident was the love and respect he has for Craig, too. Those little moments often become some of the most meaningful photographs because they tell a much bigger story than anyone planned.
The ceremony itself was led by a longtime family friend who was ordained specifically to marry Maggie and Craig. He interacted with the guests throughout the ceremony, which fit this couple so well. It felt personal, relaxed, and full of genuine joy.
The Kind of Reception Everyone Hopes For…
Once the cocktail hour and dinner wrapped up, the reception shifted into celebration mode.
The DJ kept the dance floor full all evening, and it wasn’t long before sunglasses started making their way around the room. Somehow it fit the night perfectly.
It never felt forced.
It never felt like people were dancing because they were supposed to.
Everyone was simply having a really good time together.
Those are my favorite receptions to photograph because the joy is real.
The evening ended with family and friends sending Maggie and Craig off beneath a tunnel of sparklers before they climbed into a bright red 1990s Mustang convertible.
It was unexpected.
It was fun.
And it felt exactly like them.
